Kush Housing Association is based in Hackney and provides homes and solutions to meet the
needs of people who are primarily of Black and minority ethnic origin.
Kush currently provides a service to 750 households in North East London. Our stock
includes a mix of street properties, small schemes and housing within larger consortia
developments including Holly Street estate and Clapton Park estate.
Our business plan target is to increase our portfolio to 1000 units in ownership and
management within the next five years.
Supported housing and floating support services
We also provide supported housing and floating support services that are delivered in
4 boroughs in London across 2 client groups – mental health and HIV/AIDS. We also support
and empower 70 people with mental health problems who live independently in the
community to contribute effectively to their respective communities.
The Adamfo Project - Hackney
The Adamfo Project has been developed in response to the needs of mental health users of
our services to provide self-help and support in gaining full recovery, increasing their
employment opportunities and developing a social life.
Akaba (steps to employment) - Hackney
Akaba (steps to employment) provides support, training and placement opportunities to enable
young African Caribbean men with mental health problems to gain paid employment and access to education
and training opportunities. It has found employment and job placements for over 50 people in 2 years.
The Wat's Up Club - Hackney
The Wat's Up Club mentoring project is aimed at supporting 13 – 19 yr olds. It was established
in response to tenants and community needs to support parents and youth experiencing social
exclusion at an early stage in their lives. This project creates opportunity and improves life
chances.
The Nile Centre - Hackney
This Nile Centre provides a crisis response service to African Caribbean people in mental
health crisis with the view to preventing unnecessary hospital admissions.
The Nile Centre services include: a short respite accommodation, outreach and home-based
support and counselling and therapy.
The Nile Centre is a unique alternative to hospital for the client group.
